It has been a while since I felt this rested. I wrote three freaking papers, went shopping with the girls (3), fixed a couple computers and had a few beers and finished all assigments for the week..... It was a very busy week but I feel great that it ended just the way I had it planned. When I went shopping with the girls, they bought shoes, bags, sandals, and more stuff that I ever thought a girl would ever need. I also bought a $15 pair of indoor soccer shoes and a jacket that was on sale for less than $10.
It was a great weekend that started on Saturday when I took my little baby to a flea market and just walked the whole way. Just having a great time listening to music and talking. Then I went to work on the three papers that I had to write. I wanted to go running, but the time just went flying and ended with a couple beers and a good movie with the family.

Well just another update in my life, wanting to go back overseas but the chances are about freaking zero.

On Thursday last week my back just exploded and got me to the floor in pain. It was a pain like no other. I had problems breathing. My secretary called my wife to come pick me up.... even though I told her not to, thank God she didn't listen..... I went to the emergency room at the military hospital and a good doctor diagnosed me with Shingels.
That is one of the most horriblepains I ever had. But after taking the antiviral medication for a day or so I was better, better enough to go running three miles barefooted. I LOVE RUNNING BAREFOOTED. After a few days of taking the medication I went to see the family doctor that sad it was a floating rib syndrom and NOT shingels. I didn't argue and just went my merry way, I am going to visit my original doctor and ask him his oppinion about the family doctor's diagnosis.

THAT PAIN WAS A FREAKING KILLER!!!!!!

My oldest had an operation yesterday. The doctors found a lump on her right side and after about 2 seconds of debate, we decided to take it out.
Poor child, she is so sick from the anesthesia that until this morning she was able to eat something. She is feeling a lot better now.

An accident happened today

At about 0700, by a church there was a very bad accident. Two cars had collided almost head on. A Mustang and a Kia. The Mustang was compleatly devastated and the driver seemed to be in a very bad condition. The Kia drivers seemed to have had just a minor cut.
It is amazing how people wake up in the morning not knowing that the day is just a series of obstacles trying to kill you.
I hope that both of them are not seriusly injured.
Also, today I went to get my license and forgot some paperwork, on my way home I learned that my wife had ran over a dog and damaged the grill of the car, everybody in the car was OK but the dog was dispatched to dog heaven.
On my way back to get my license, I saw a young man that had ran out of gas, picked him up and took him to the first gas station, that one was closed so I took him to another a few miles down the road. I also gave him a ride back.
Got my Alabama license and the ladies at the DMV were super great. Not just great, there were fantasticly great.

There are any number of reasons why an American might oppose the Cordoba House, the planned $100 million Muslim-financed community center that has come to be known in the press as the "Ground Zero mosque." I don't think any of them are particularly good reasons, but the universe of potential justification is much broader than the narrow scope of this humble blog. There is one justification being floated around, however, that is both within this blog's purview and completely and totally bogus. Indeed, this particular justification is such an egregious and purposeful misreading of medieval history that I feel I must speak up.

Last week,* Newt Gingrich released a Newt Direct statement at Newt.org concerning the project. As you may have heard, he's somewhat opposed to it. And to explain why, he offered this history lesson:
The proposed "Cordoba House" overlooking the World Trade Center site – where a group of jihadists killed over 3000 Americans and destroyed one of our most famous landmarks - is a test of the timidity, passivity and historic ignorance of American elites. For example, most of them don’t understand that “Cordoba House” is a deliberately insulting term. It refers to Cordoba, Spain – the capital of Muslim conquerors who symbolized their victory over the Christian Spaniards by transforming a church there into the world’s third-largest mosque complex. [...I]n fact, every Islamist in the world recognizes Cordoba as a symbol of Islamic conquest. It is a sign of their contempt for Americans and their confidence in our historic ignorance that they would deliberately insult us this way. [emphasis mine]
It's that appositive phrase there buried in the middle of my quote that is the problem. In these twenty-five words, Newt offers the final word on medieval Cordoba: "the capital of Muslim conquerors who symbolized their victory over Christian Spaniards by transforming a church there into the world's third-largest mosque complex." This fact, the transformation of a church into a mosque, is the only thing we should think of when we hear a modern Muslim use the word "Cordoba," according to Mr. Gingrich.

Notice how carefully he's phrased his claim to give the impression that during the medieval conquest of Spain the Muslims charged into Cordoba and declared it the capital of a new Muslim empire, and in order to add insult to injury seized control of a Christian church and built the biggest mosque they could, right there in front of the Christians they'd just conquered, a big Muslim middle finger in the heart of medieval Christendom. Essentially, they've done it before, they'll do it again, right there at Ground Zero, if all good Christians don't band together to stop them.

The problem is, in order to give that impression of immediacy, Newt elides three hundred years of Christian and Muslim history. Three hundred years. The Muslims conquered Cordoba in 712. The Christian church that was later transformed into the Great Mosque of Cordoba apparently** continued hosting Christian worship for at least a generation after that. Work on the Mosque didn't actually begin until seventy-odd years later in 784, and the mosque only became "the world's third-largest" late in the tenth century, after a series of expansions by much later rulers, probably around 987 or so.

Then there's the matter of the two odd verbs in Newt's summation of Cordoba's history: "transformed" and "symbolized". Surely, a mosque as great as The Great Mosque of Cordoba, has symbolized a lot of things to a lot of people over the years. But Muslim historians writing about the Great Mosque don't point to it as a symbol of Muslim triumph over Christians; rather, they treat it primarily as a symbol of Muslim victory over other Muslims.

Keep in mind that when ground was broken on the Great Mosque, the vast majority of the men who had been personally responsible for conquering the Iberian peninsula were long dead and most of their sons were dead, too. Sure, a few extremely ancient grey beards might have been present as very, young men, and a few older men might have been able to talk about what their fathers had done during the Conquest, but Muslim control of Spain was simply a fact of life for them, not something they felt they had to justify the Christians.

The mosque was indeed begun in the wake of a Muslim conquest--just not the conquest of the Christians. Rather, it was ordered built by the Umayyad emir Abd-ar-Ramman I, probably in part to commemorate his successful conquest of Cordoba in the 750's, fought against other Muslim chieftains loyal to the rival Abbasid Caliphate, and his successful repulsion of subsequent Abbasid attempts to dislodge him by force throughout the 760's.*** This is, incidentally, probably why the Great Mosque--unlike almost every other Mosque in the Muslim world--is built facing south. Usually, Mosques are built facing Mecca, as Muslims are meant to pray towards the holy city. But the Great Mosque is oriented as if it were actually built in Damascus, the original capital of the Umayyads and the city from which abd-ar-Ramman had had to flee in exile when it was conquered by the Abbasids. Damascus is north of Mecca, while Cordoba is much further west. By pointing his Mosque south, Abd-ar-Ramman I was telling his Muslim rivals, "This exile to Iberia is a temporary thing; you may hold Damascus for now, but in the eyes of our god, my family still controls it."

Still, the Muslims did "transform" a Christian church, didn't they? Possibly, but only in a very qualified sense. Most standard histories of Cordoba will note that the Great Mosque is built on the site of the Basilica of St Vincent, Martyr, a Visigothic church that was itself built on the ruins of a Roman pagan temple. And archaeological work has confirmed that the present site of the Mosque did at one time belong to some sort of Christian church. There's no indication that the present-day structure included any elements from that church, though, and exactly when it was razed and under what circumstances is unclear.

Muslim historians of the late tenth century tell that Abd-ar-Ramman bought the church from the Christian congregation after sharing it with them for fifty years "following the example of Abu Ubayda and Khalid, according to the judgement of Caliph Umar in partitioning Christian churches like that of Damascus and other [cities] that were taken of peaceful accord".**** The Christians, we're told, took their money and relocated their church to the outskirts of Cordoba. Now obviously, these are Muslim historians writing two-to-three-hundred years after the events they describe, so we must always take their accounts with a grain of salt (as we would with any historian's work, Muslim or not) and consider the political motivations responsible for their histories.

These tenth-century historians were writing to please the ears of the Cordoban caliphs, Abd-ar-Ramman III and his successors, in the wake of yet another victory of Muslim over Muslim. Abd-ar-Ramman III, after all, is the one who declared Cordoba to be an independent caliphate, not just an Umayyad emirate. In rewriting the history of the Mosque of Cordoba, these historians were writing imperial justifications for their patron, explaining why Cordoba deserved to be the capital of its own caliphate, held up as the equal to Damascus, site of the Great Mosque of the Umayyads, and even Mecca, the holiest of cities, which was still under Abbasid control.

This is the important fact that Newt hopes those who read his polemic will be ignorant of: for a ruler to be legitimate in Muslim eyes in the tenth century, during the time when the Great Mosque was being expanded into its present-day dimensions, it was important to emphasize the peaceful succession of Islam from the other religions in the area. A caliph was expected to have arrived at an accord with the Christians and Jews over which he ruled.****** Far from "symboliz[ing] their victory" the Mosque was held up by Muslim historians a symbol of peaceful coexistence with the Christians--however messier the actual relations of Christians and Muslims were at the time.*******

So what should modern Christians think when they hear a Muslim use the word "Cordoba"? Well, I know that Newt hasn't been a Catholic for very long now, but maybe his priest ought to direct him to read a little thing called "The Catholic Encyclopedia". Allow me to quote from the 1917 edition (which has the virtue of being in the public domain and easily searchable) and its entry on Cordoba:
In 786 the Arab caliph, Abd-er Rahman I, began the construction of the great mosque of Cordova, now the cathedral, and compelled many Christians to take part in the preparation of the site and foundations. Though they suffered many vexations, the Christians continued to enjoy freedom of worship, and this tolerant attitude of the ameers seduced not a few Christians from their original allegiance. Both Christians and Arabs co-operated at this time to make Cordova a flourishing city, the elegant refinement of which was unequalled in Europe.
The article then discusses the persecution of the Christians under Abd-ar-Ramman II, which included the martyrdom of St. Eulogius. Then it continues with the rule of those rulers who expanded the Mosque:
In 962 Abd-er Rahman III was succeeded by his son Al-Hakim. Owing to the peace which the Christians of Cordova then enjoyed [...] the citizens of Cordova, Arabs, Christians, and Jews, enjoyed so high a degree of literary culture that the city was known as the New Athens. From all quarters came students eager to drink at its founts of knowledge. Among the men afterwards famous who studied at Cordova were the scholarly monk Gerbert, destined to sit on the Chair of Peter as Sylvester II (999-1003), the Jewish rabbis Moses and Maimonides, and the famous Spanish-Arabian commentator on Aristotle, Averroes.
So it's easy to see why a group of Muslims creating a community center in the heart of a majority Christian country in a city known for its large Jewish population might name it "The Cordoba House" They're not, as Gingrich hopes we would believe, discreetly laughing at us because "Cordoba" is some double-secret Islamist code for "conquest"; rather, they're hoping to associate themselves with a particular time in medieval history when the largest library in Western Europe was to be found in Cordoba, a city in which scholars of all three major Abrahamic religions were free to study side-by-side.

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor , allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.

So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.

I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.

Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.

Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue . You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.

And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts , who was putting up a fight? You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.

One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.
You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That's not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.
And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.

The days when the US Navy, that he so proudly served, limited the jobs of black sailors to cooks and stewards. I like the way he mentions the idea the no man should be a slave to another and for that reason 500,000 men died in the Civil War, but after 80 years of that war (WWII) ALL the services were still segregated. I guess those were the good old days for that great generation.
Take it from an old soldier that served proudly in the US Army; thank you for your leadership and thank you Mr. President for actually working for all Americans and not for just the ones that voted you into office.
He talks about the memories of his friends that died in WWII, I also have memories of my soldiers being mutilated by IEDs in search of weapons of mass destruction that were the fabrication of the prior administration.

This old geezer even says “and just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more.” You were absolutely right. I am NOT a Christian, nor a Muslim, nor a Jew. I have many friends from all three denominations. It is very hard for my Muslims friends when an Idiot commits a crime and it is generalized to their single group. They are Americans that happened to be Muslims.

One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, Just like President Bush, Vice President Cheney and the bunch of chicken-hawks that got us in Iraq to begin with, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now. Thanks for doing the job the others failed to do. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. Even though his credibility was completely shattered after the SPC Tillman fiasco came to light. But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out. That is why you changed strategy from the last administration because we are in Afghanistan to win and not just stay the course. This old geezer also says: “The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.” Does he have direct contact with the Pentagon and congress and knows something that all of us don’t?

You could be our greatest president because you have the courage to face the challenges that others had not. You will restore the greatness of this nation and its people by leading where others feared to go. The last couple weeks have been crazy, from having my whole family staying with us to the snow and then some more snow..... It has been a crazy new year from the start.
A few weeks ago, my whole family (20 relatives) come to stay with us for the last week of January. It was crazy since one of my little relatives brought a nasty virus that took out 3/4 of the family. Yes, there were 15 people sick at one time while visiting my home and family.
I am going to post pictures in the days ahead of the reunion and of the snow storm we had last week.

A few words about the death of the CIA agents in AFG.

First and most of all I would like to lament and send condolences to the families of the American Agents killed last week in Afghanistan.
There is absolute NO reason why this should have happened. We have been at this war for almost 9 years and we are still loosing our troops to stupid and amateurish mistakes.
There is an epidemic in our ranks, from the lowest to the highest that it is not easy to control and the cure against it comes way too late. It is called Complacency. The enemy counts on it and the enemy will exploit it every time because we fall so easily under its spell.
In 2005, the same thing happened to my troops. The attack came from an enemy so adaptable that it was easy to evade our defenses and killed two Americans and 9 Iraqis.
We were 100% sure that the attack was coming as a suicide bomber and it was going to be one of the Iraqis working inside the compound. We knew that the attack was going to be against the mess hall or the living quarters. very logical locations because the higher concentration of people. We had built that place with Iraqi labor and Iraqi materials and a few months later we found out that those workers had given information to the terrorist about the facilities inside the jail we were in charged of protecting and running.
It was an inside job that took a few months to get it going. The suicide bomber first target was the living quarters, but failed to get there because we had just added a few extra doors and guards to the second floor where we were staying. So he decided to go to his secondary objective that was the mess hall.
We were checking all people going to the mess hall to eat. There was a lot of traffic around the building and never paid any attention to those people coming and going a few steps away from the exit door of the mess hall. That SOB was able to get in through the exit door and detonate his vest.
We learned from that mistake at the cost of many lives.

There is NOT a better intelligence agency in the world than the CIA. I have worked with them in Colombia, Iraq and spoken with them here and I have to tell you that they know their stuff. But mistakes are made and people die because of complacency and two another factors that are rarely addressed:
There are a few people in the intelligence business that think because they are in the "Intelligence Business" they themselves are intelligent and certain laws that apply to lower humans don't apply to them. I have seen this and I will give you two examples:

I am smarter than you are!!!!!!
In 2005 when entering our jail, the Military Intelligence people would NOT clear their weapons nor their "guests" were searched for concealed weapons nor explosives. Their Uniforms were sterile (no names nor any unit markings) and their interpreter would wear a mask to protect his identity. The female in charge told me that they were a security detail and were there just to check things out. I asked again what was she doing in my jail and again she said the same thing. On the third time she finally told me that they were Counter Intelligence and please keep it to myself. I told her that inside the jail we had many ex-intelligence officers from Saddam's army and if she thought that by coming here with that lame bullshit story she was going to fool anyone that she was going to get her team killed. I also told her that the mask for her interpreter had to come off, but she said that that was not going to happen. I gave her a choice, he either takes it off or I will arrest his ass and put him in jail. So they left.

Arrogance!!!!
A few years later one MI Officer in the US Army wanted to "talk" to one of my linguists because he over heard her say something about "Taliban." He identified himself to my boss and ordered him to get her interview by him. In no gentle terms my boss told him to get fucking lost. Another officer, later, told me that this MI Major was flashing his ID card to anyone that could get him special treatment while here in Georgia. A full bird Colonel had to tell this Major that it was was NOT his lane and the lady in question had a clearance, equal or higher, than him.

Of course I am not saying that all of them are like the people I have described before, but a few have the mentality that their status as an Intelligence agent makes him more equal that others.

I have worked in the MI field before and there is NO better and more intelligent group of minds in this world that those of the CIA.

I know that all local civilians are searched when entering any FOB. Why was this individual NOT searched? Because the officers were complacent. Because some in the higher ranks believe that the rules for a Corporal or a Lieutenant don't apply to the higher life forms.

It is human nature to fail. Every generation learns this the hard way.

I have said a prayer for the dead and for the ones that survived.

The winter is almost upon us and the weather here was great!!! For a little while. It is going to be cold today. The highest temperature for today is going to be 55F.

The job is going to get busier. As you know the President has increase our commitment to a shit loaded more troops. Those troops will need linguist and that is my business. So you can imagine my smile when I was assured a job for the next few years.

The surge will not commence as of this second but it will take time. So far we are just getting the usual amount of linguist every few days. But I know that is going to increase because of the commitment.

I hope you enjoyed the video from weeks past. Fahim is a very good friend and he loves what he is doing. I still keep in touch and he says that everything is so crazy over there that it will take about 10 years to get it fix to the point that a functional government can be left alone to its people. Yes, I hate Windows 7. I was in love with the Operating System that Microsoft had advertised as the cure to Vista but it has come to be as expensive, if not more, that the Piece of Shit (POS) Vista.

I was going to buy it, the whole thing... but when I saw the price, I saw the Monopoly that Microsoft has on the market.

Do you remember when the Silicon breast implants were exploding and making women sick? Then the industry came with saline implants and the doctors were charging even more to take out the defective ones to replace them.

Yeap, Vista was a solid POS that could have been a great Operating System. The reason that it became a solid POS was because the first computers that were sold with Vista came with the minimum amount of memory. The computers took so long to boot and once loaded with applications they became super slow.
I am starting to use Linux. Ubuntu and Sabayon are my favorites.

I have three computers at home running Linux. Windows can kiss my hot Hispanic and waxed ass!!!!

It has been almost 4 years since I heard a shot fired on the battle field and I MISS IT. Remember that when I was in Iraq, I was complaining about it, now I miss it so much that I am considering applying for a job in Colombia as a trainer for their army.

And of course, I live in what I consider the Texico Plains (San Antonio)....

Good Morning.... It was a long week but today is Saturday and I am going shooting with my daughter. Yeap, we are going to hang out with a bunch of red-necks.
I think that the red-neck way of life is not understood by people who have never lived in this peculiar environment.

In the 1980s there was a war in Afghanistan that lasted 10 years, the Russians had their Viet Nam.
One of my linguist fought against the Russians in that war. He spent 6 years fighting them, got caught and spent another 6 months in a Russian jail being beaten and starved until he escaped with the help of the local guards.
He traveled almost 10,000 miles just to get here, he came in the Vietnamese boat immigration in the late 1970s.
Now he has a big house, big family and wants to go back to Afghanistan to help the troops.

Man, I hate being forced to insult someone. But he brings it on himself: Glenn Beck is an idiot.

He is a right-wing blowhard who talks endlessly about stuff he doesn’t have a clue about. A web search on him will yield endless idiotic rants where he is precisely wrong (his penultimate latest was claiming that people who hate America — meaning progressives — were getting their houses burnt in California. That dope doesn’t even know how conservative San Diego county is, let alone understand just how truly offensive such a statement is on its own merits).

So now he is pontificating on global warming and the SoCal fires. And what does this brain trust have to say?

BECK: We’ll tell you the truth. We’ll tell you the things that are politically incorrect. I’ll go on and I’ll tell you the fires have very little to do with global warming, if anything. The globe was the hottest in 19 — was it 1934, Stu [executive producer Steve “Stu” Burguiere], or ‘37? — ‘34, 1934 was the hottest year. A stat, by the way, that was, I believe, intentionally distorted by the guy the left holds up as the scientist on global warming. America’s temperature peaked in 1934. Since 1934, the hottest year on record was 1998. It has not gotten warmer since 1998. That’s a fact.

Now, why are these fires burning out of control? Al Gore and everybody else will have you believe that it is all about global warming. Well, really? A one-degree temperature change that happened at the first part of the century, not in the last part of the century, at least most of it, and a temperature change that hasn’t changed since 1998 is causing superfires in California and only California? Only America? It’s in the American borders. How is that possible?

His first statement is wrong, right off the bat: it’s nowhere near the truth.

First, 1934 was the hottest year in the US, not globally. Second, as I discussed extensively on this very blog, 1934 was just barely hotter than 1998, the second hottest year on record (again, in the US, not in the world). The difference is so miniscule that they can be considered to be tied.

Third, that stat was not intentionally distorted by James Hansen (the scientist he mentions obliquely). There was some recalibration done on the temperatures, and the numbers get shuffled around a bit. Not terribly much, in fact, and the overall conclusions on global warming don’t change.

Fourth, the fluctuations in temperature year-to-year are large, so you can’t simply state that it hasn’t gotten hotter since 1998. That’s meaningless. You need to look at longer trends.

Fifth, while the one degree rise in Fahrenheit has been going on for the past century, in fact the temperature has spiked upward since about 1980. That’s obvious from this graph (x-axis is years since 1880):

So in fact, Beck is wrong again: the majority of the rise in temperatures in the US has been over the past few decades.

Sixth, no real scientist is saying that global warming is causing these fires. What it’s doing is setting up conditions where things like this are more likely. Global warming affects global weather patterns, and it’s the Santa Ana winds that turned these fires from a nuisance into a killer. I’m not saying that GW is the trigger here; I’m saying that things will get wonkier from here on out. Count on it.

Glenn Beck has an astonishing record of saying astonishingly stupid things. He said this particular garbage on his radio show. I’m not surprised; AM radio is loaded with talk shows that spew nothing but hate, lies, distortions, and intolerance (I am only intolerant of willful ignorance and willful distortion of reality). But he also has an hour-long program on CNN every day! Why the heck does CNN give him any air at all?

My dear niece, Xiomara, died this morning of a brain tumor.
My brother called me early this morning to pass the news, she had had an operation about 48 hours ago and had gone well, but her heart was not able to support the strain.

Life continues for the living. It is hard to understand how I went through three wars unscratched!!! My brother had two open heart surgeries, my sister had aneurysm and we are still here. She was 21 years old and will live in my memory until I join her.

Just a sad reality about life, sooner or later all comes to an end. Better make the best of it while we can.

Not Really....
My two teenage girls went to their first concert last night. My brother in law came from out of town and took them to their first outing of significance at night without their parents.
For the four hours they were gone, I was trying to stay calmed, relaxed and doing other things to keep my mind from telling me I am NOT READY for this.
My brother in law is a body builder covered in tattoos and was able to scare off ANY young man brave enough to get near my girls.
So, of course being a very southern boy, a few beers and another few beers.... my teenage girls had to take care of him for a little while until my wife went to get them.
It was a funny scene, according to my daughters, because my Brother in Law would stare down or intimidate by approching the poor defensless creature and in a wisper ask him if wanted to make it to be 18 yaers old without any major surgery.

Once the were all home, everybody just went to sleep and now I am here typing this to the sound of the Sunday morning silence.

Yes, today I have a headache that won't go away. I have meetings all day, I just escaped a few minutes ago and I am going to lunch.
This morning I was surprised by my daughter C. early morning. I was getting dress by the living room when she came to tell me that there was a little bird that my killer cat had brought in last night and she wanted to see if it was still alive. Well, the bird was alive and very hungry.
ANOTHER FUCKING PET IN THE HOUSE. Now we have three dogs, two cats, a fish, a mouse and a freaking bird. My house is becoming the neighborhood zoo.

Another 4th of July...... This is the best holiday of the year. Imagine when our founding fathers decided to legitimize their ambitions by declaring independence from the old country. The more I read about the independence movement the more I realize what kind of crooked people they were!!!! It is a great story, I love it and I am glad they did start a country like ours..... I will write more as I get deep into the subject.

A few weeks ago I received a call from my parents telling me that my niece has a bad form of cancer and she needs an operation ASAP.
The cancer is at the base of her brain and was the size of a golf ball.
All started with her finals at the University, she had been studying so much that didn't have time to exercise so a few pounds were added to her belly. Once she started going back to the gym, she noticed that her sourness was not going away. She just thought that she was out of shape and continued with the program. After a month with no improvement, she decided to see a doctor.
After a week of tests and visiting specialist, the diagnosis was bad. In a week her life went from worrying about her finals to trying to save her life.
She was admitted to the hospital and we were pressed for time. Her operation lasted for about 5 hours and at the end, the doctor gave us the bad news. It is terminal cancer at the stem of the brain. The doctors couldn't remove all of the tumor, and what is left it will take her life away little by little.
She is going to have to take 25 doses of chemotherapy and then radiation treatments.

She went home a few days ago to wait for the green light for the treatment.
There are not words to explain the sadness over the whole family.
BTW, once we found out that she was going through chemotherapy all the males in the family shaved their heads..... yes, even the little ones.

Our time on the Beach

It was a great time.
The beautiful Ft. Walton Beach was great. I got burnt and I think I changed race.
It was a 4 hour drive straight south. After stopping to pee and pick up some food and drinks we left, last Friday afternoon, and got there about dusk. Went to the beach just to wet our toes and went to bed. Of course after three beers I slept like a baby.
We spent the whole next day under the sun and bathing on the relatively warm waters of the Gulf. After that we went to the Air Force museum and walked a bit before crashing out. On Sunday we packed up and came home.
Short, intense and sweet trip.

I think we will have to do it again soon.

84 hours and counting

Today, at 1200 moon, marks my 84th hour working this week since last Saturday. Tonight I am leaving for the beach and I am going to drink beer until I pass out or a six pack, what ever comes first. (Yes, I am a light weight).

I have enrolled my young one in Karate, yesterday we took her to check it out and she loved it. The Master asked me if I have ever done it and I said yes, I was a Black Belt in 1992 in Korea. I am thinking about joining my baby for Karate classes.
I did Karate and Kick Boxing about 15 years ago. I was my weight champ in Korea in 1992 when I was in the 2nd Infantry Division. I was great and when all that went to my head I got my ass kick two weeks later.
That fight was so bad for me, I got my ass kicked from one end to the other. The second round was not too bad and I won the third. But my ass kicking was so bad in the first round that even if I would have killed my opponent, I would have lost.

Somehow I want to go back and start all over again.

I feel bad for bitching about my sex life. I always felt that I had a great sex life. I am getting older and I feel that I am not getting what I want. That is not my sexual drive. I need to feel the desire of my partner, I need to feel her words asking me to pleasure her. I need, I need, I need.....

Well it is true. I am think I am going crazy because I need sex. I need a lot of sex, it seems that it is the only thing I think all freaking day. I get interrupted now and then with stupid things like work, driving and little things like that. It seems that the only time I don't think about sex is when I am at home, because I am so tired. I also have to help my girls with their homework, work on the yard, do some homework myself, just resting thinking about sex and if I can get my wife alone five minutes I grab her, but then the excuses come up; the children are up, I have something on the stove, lets wait until tonight, etc. By the time everything is quiet at home, I am so freaking tired that I pass out. I TELL HER EVERY DAY to wake me up and use me like a $2 radio. But it is rare that she does that, it happens about once or twice a week. I NEED IT EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Work sucks, it has just escalated to 3 times as before, but I am glad I have a job.

It won't last long, next month the numbers are going down and we will be able to have some time off....... I am just mumbling and ranting.

2000 Miles Home..... and Back

We had a great time. It was about 2000 miles both ways in four days and we survived the drive.
All started on Thursday with a rented car and drove almost all night to Maryland to see my parents. The drive was not that bad because we kept entertaining each other with thins like the alphabet game; which is just starting with the letter A and finding a word outside the car and calling it out. The ass kicker is getting to the letter X, unless you are near a hospital, it is very hard to find a word starting with the letter X.
We stopped to eat a lot and the girls behaved relatively well considering that we drove 14 hours.
Mom and Dad were very happy to see us and next morning we ate like kings.
I went to my Alma Mater and took tons of pictures and then we left for Washington DC to see my brother and his little baby.
My brother married a white Irish super catholic woman. She works for the Supreme Court and has an IQ of a super human. The baby has the goofiness of my brother and the intelligence of my Sister in Law.
The baby was passed from family member to family member and she slept like a happy baby. The problem starts when there is no noise in the house, the baby doesn’t like the silence and starts to cry. It was funny to see the inexperience father and mother trying to appease a crying infant.
Next day we went to the Washington DC Mall and the Smithsonian. First we went to was the Space museum. My 9 year old struck a conversation with an astronaut that will be flying in the shuttle on May 11th to repair, for the last time, the Hubble Space Telescope. For 45 minutes, my little girl, had this man in a conversation about space, homework and that ants like to walk on out back yard in a certain way.
After that we went walking to the Natural History museum and again took tons of pictures. We walked 8 hours all through our Capital. We went to the White House and took pictures; we later found that The President and his wife had walked out to have an evening stroll just a few hours after we were there.
We went to a Salvadorian restaurant to eat with the whole family and went to bed.
The baptism was great, I was the Godfather and the baby slept the whole time, even after the Catholic water boarding ritual, she just open her eyes, saw the people around her and went back to sleep.
Right after that we had to leave and we drove 14 hours to Columbus, GA without killing two teenagers and a 9 year old that wants to know everything.

Yeap. That was 2000 miles of driving and eating and enduring the family trips.

Next year we are taking all of them, to El Salvador again.

My dear friends..... Another weekend and I am resting after a 90 hour week. It has been very busy here lately with about 100 linguist and staff coming down for the program in Iraq only. Who said that we were leaving Iraq?
Among my 12-16 hour days, I find time to fix some computers. One linguist asked me if I could help him, because the "Geek Squad" at Best But had told him that his computer was old and his hard drive (the Geek Squad was asking for $200 to replace) was bad and he needed just to buy a new computer. So he asked me if there was anything I could do for him. He gave me the computer and went home. After an hour of troubleshooting I got the computer back to life and repaired his Windows Operating System. I am so smart that on the same day I took 2 hours to troubleshoot another computer when a real Network Administrator, that is also a linguist, asked me "why are you going through the elbow to get to the nose?" He showed me an easy way that will probably save me a lot of time next time. Talking about a humility check.....

SOCCER season is over. We have wasted so much money just eating out going to all those soccer games that I think I could have made an extra house payment. Both girls were injured this year but recovering fine. They will need a few months of rest before they start Karate or Kick Boxing or something to keep them busy and NOT drive mom crazy.

What a week!
My girls have broken the spell! They won two of their last three soccer games. It was great, my daughter was awesome last Saturday. I have been telling her that to play defender she has to have the mentality that if a player from the other team comes near her, she has to either take the ball or take her out. She did a few times and I was so proud of her.
My daughter D. was injured a few weeks ago and had to watch the games on the side line. The Doc cleared her to play but I want he to wait for a few days until she gets her stamina back but she wants to go out there and play on Monday.

Have a great weekend that I will be working my hot Hispanic butt off. By the way, the location that we work on at Ft. Benning was hit by a tornado a week ago and everything looks like a WWII battlefield.

Holy Crap

I am very sorry for my long absence from this blog. I had been working hard, but at the same time I am very happy that I have a great job.
As you might have seen and read on the news; the Afghanistan contract is expanding and we are in the middle of it. The Iraqi contract is also expanding and the company that had it and we were supporting is about to be sent packing by the US Army. The reasons for their abrupt departure is that they sucked to high heaven, I have yet to meet a linguist returning from Iraq that said DynCorp is a good company.
All of the linguist want to come and work for us, but because of restrictions by the US Army, the linguist can not just jump ship and start on a new contract. The linguist have to be either terminated or fired from their current contract before they can be rehired by any other company.

On the plus side, my brother had a little girl that came out smiling and so alert it went straight for the nipple. We will be going to Washington DC for the baptism.

The girls are very excited about the trip, but the best part is that we are going to see the whole family and we are going to spend the whole day walking around the Capital.

I will be taking a million pictures of my babies and wife.

Good Morning to all!!!!
I woke up this morning and went running for a few miles, just a couple because my face froze. I forget to mention that after I came in and went to scratch my privates, sweaty nut flavor ice came off my fingernails!!!!! IT IS FREAKING COLD OUT THERE.

Work is going, but I messed up today. One of the managers asked me to do something very simple but important and I forgot to do it, now I am trying to fix it. I can only wait for the phone to ring to tell me thee have the information needed for tomorrow.
I just feel so freaking useless and stupid because it was just a simple question and I forgot to ask the three linguist leaving today. I basically screwed over my partner.
I FEEL SO STUPID!!!
At the same time I had another job offer for Iraq. I didn't take it because my family said that three wars were enough and it gets to a point where you have to say enough is enough. I wish I could go because I miss being "over there." Whatever "over there" means.
Meanwhile I just stay home and try to stay fit, just in case.

For the last three weeks I have been waking up early so I could run a few miles, but it has been so cold and it takes its toll on the face, hands and feet and Mr. right, Mr. left and Mr Happy.

It will not last long, winters here only last about three months, and then it gets so freaking hot.
I LOVE THE SOUTH!!!

After feeling like total poop for the last week, I woke up a bit better today. I have been super, over medicated and I felt that I could deal with all the linguist a bit better like that.

My daughter received a text message a few weeks ago from a friend telling her that "he (Matt, his real name) was going to put her in the hospital and she might not wake up." I told my baby that this fucker was about to face reality. I did some digging and found out that he has been diagnosed as bipolar and he was sent to a special school for such cases. In other words this fucker is a future target and excuse for my PTSD to come out.
He is bipolar and I have a bi-barrel shotgun. Last night I found out that my daughter has been in contact with him because after he sent that message he apologized and asked for forgiveness.
I told my baby that she will stop all contact with him for his benefit, because if there is another incident there is no place on earth that this fucker could hide from me.
My daughter felt that because he had apologized that it made it all fine and that he meant it. She also said that he didn't mean it and that he is just a great guy and he is hard to understand. She said that she should be allowed to make mistakes because she would learn from them. I said that she already made a mistake for continuing to talk to him after that text message. Now, because of that mistake, I was taking matters out of her hands and into mine.

On Friday, I am going to school and talk to the principal about this fucking idiot and I am going to make him aware of the problem.

After all the crying and begging we sat down and watched American Idol together and had a great time. I guess Matt is not that important.

I know that this is the first of many incidents to come.

Other than the US Army, this is the longest job I ever had.
Today I was working at the Central Issue Facility, that is where the soldiers here at Ft. Benning get their military gear, and saw a friend from long time ago. I was just helping some of my linguist return their gear so they could go home. The Captain and I served together in Iraq, great friend that helped me in a few firefights and mortar attacks we had in Iraq. I was happy to see him and I noticed that after my linguists there were about 300 soldiers waiting for their paperwork to pick up stuff they need for their next deployment and he was number 297. He thought that he was going to be there 8 hours waiting for his number to be called. I told him to give me his paper work, went downstairs to ask my friends that work there to see if they could help my friend out. They did and as soon as I got the pick up menu and orders I went back to where the soldiers were and told the captain to follow after me. At the same time there was another officer that had been a total ass hole the two years I was assigned to the unit in 2005 and 2006 and his number was 285. He was going to wait for 8 hours for his turn. As soon as I went by with my friend I could see his face with too much pride to ask me to help him out. I walked my friend through the whole process and was able to get all his gear in about 20 minutes, as a matter of fact he was the first.
Before I said good by to my friend, he told me that the other captain has always been an ass hole!!!!
That reminds me of an old saying in the Army: Never step on the toes that might be connected to the ass you will be kissing later.

BTW I just received an email from him telling me that the ass hole Captain still waiting (it is 5pm) for his number to be called.

I am suffering the cold of the century!!! I have been so miserable in the last few days that I just want to go home, have a drink and go to sleep.

I think today is going to be an early day... I feel lite total dog shit!!!!!

Good Morning
I woke up this morning with a desire to drink about three pots of coffee before I go running.
So as I wait here for a few more minutes to finish my hydration I decided to write a few words.
GEN SHINSEKI has been called to duty to be in charge of the VA. The more I think about the possibilities of the new administration I feel that we are entering a great era. I just hope that I am not placing my hopes too high and the man can not deliver.

My daughter is doing better, her monthly visitor came and she is just miserable. I hope that she is better for the holidays....
HEY! I have a question, I don't believe in the Christmas story, I don't believe 90% of what we have been told about the Christianity thing, but I still say Merry Christmas. I believe that we have done something good with that pagan holiday and I hope more people would understand that the Christians were the biggest terrorist and murderers for a long time.
I guess the Muslims are just trying to catch up.

We have an Explorer that we bought about three years ago. That piece of shit has been braking down almost yearly, so after thinking about one second we decided to go and see if we could trade it in.
We couldn't because it is an SUV and the trade in value is about the same as the ENRON stock at this moment.
So we went to the KIA dealer, still couldn't do anything yet because we owe too much on that piece of shit and if we were to buy the KIA we would be looking at about a house payment for the car.
By the way; KIA was giving us about $2000 more than Ford.

So we decided to keep it one more year and next year we will go and trade it for a KIA SUV that gives about 30 Miles per gallon.

My daughter still a bit sick and the doctors told us that it is most likely Colitis, but without the Salmonella, that condition would have been unnoticed.
She has been going to school and when she comes home she is just exusted and just want to play Guitar Hero until midnight..... Just that!!! My other daughter, 9 years old, has a favorite song; Beat it by Michael Jackson. Now she wants me to download all his music for her MP3 player.

I just wanted to give you a little smile for the day.....

Hugo is one of my best friends,
This dog is smart, caring and when needed aggressive against other dogs.
Two days ago, my wife took him out, as soon as I heard the door open, barking started.
He went after two stray dogs, bigger than him, and chased them out of the front yard.

I was very amazed and amused at his stand looking after the yard.
So proud and so regal that as soon as he came in the house we gave him a treat.

This dog goes running with me, it is amazing that he lasts for two miles, after coming in and drinking a gallon of water he just drops and falls asleep for hours.

Hugo is a great dog.
