It was a long and busy weekend.

It was a very busy weekend.
My plans were to just relax and have a very lazy three days just doing nothing at home. Doing nothing at home means: cleaning, washing, drinking coffee, beating the kids, beating the dogs, working on the yard and eating.
About 10am on Saturday my father in law called that he wanted to see his grandchildren and in a three day weekend, he wanted the girls to have a great time with him, so we packed in 30 minutes and to Savannah, GA we went.

The girls had a great time riding Grandpa’s motorcycle and just having fun, I ate a lot and my brother in law was just wonderful playing with the girls.

Here I am having fun with my work and computers.
It was a great weekend…. I also was able to think about my friends… here and gone.

Nigerian 419 scams

Hello everybody….
I found a way to deal with those annoying emails from people asking you to help with millions and millions of dollars, the scam is called the Nigerian 491 scam; The scheme originated from Nigeria, Africa in the late 80's and is named after the Nigerian Penal Code section that deals with fraud schemes. The fact is that the Nigerian police does not wanted to prosecute these crimes because, like all third world countries, the law and the police are being paid by the business.
“Before the popularity of email, Nigerian 419 scams were originally sent over fax machines and by snail mail. Those who have contacted the scammers are presented with many forged or official documents in an attempt to convince the victims that the promise of money is legit. Meantime, they claim fees must be paid and accounts must be setup. All this money is at the victim's expense. Loss of your own funds is the easy part. Some who have responded to Nigerian 419 scams have become victims of kidnapping and murder.”

You can do two things; play with them and send them some bullshit information or just saturate their email boxes with old emails from other sources.
As soon as you respond they will ask you about you account; send them some made up info about some made up bank. When they ask you to pay the $1200 to release the money, ask them to please lend you the money from the million that you have won. Ask them to deposit the money in that made up account and that you will pay it back ten fold.
They will answer that the law prohibits them of doing that. You can also ask them the reason why they are using a yahoo email account instead of the official bank email account. I have a lot of fun with that!!!!

Another way is to make a folder in one of your email accounts where you can save all your junk email. As soon as you get one of the Nigerians emails take one email from the folder and paste the email address from where it came from on the “To,” “CC,” and “BCC.” Do that to five emails from the junk email folder and those bastards take you off the list wicked fast.

Life is grand!!! Just try not to wake up the wife at 2AM!!!!

So far I have five computers running at one time. Everyday is a challenge that I LOVE taking. I didn’t go to sleep last night until 2AM, I was working with the internet people because I pay for super-fast and I was getting super-slow. After bitching to everybody who would listen I found out that MY VoIP box was dying. After I power cycle the thing for about three times it went “Snap, Crackle, and Pop.” That was about ten at night and I had to start to make things work before my morning, at the same time I get two calls from an hotel that their internet is down, I am the tech on call so I have to deal with those problems on the phone because I still have no internet. After a few hours of messing with the equipment …… I can not sleep if my computer is NOT working or my wife has NOT had the big “O.” I just feel that I have failed as a tech and as a man. My wife hates it because she says that she doesn’t want the big “O” all the time.
After that ADD moment….. At the time I was messing with the router and I found that here was a setting that went from “Router to Gateway” on that specific Linksys system, I change the setting because I had done everything else and that was the only thing left to do before I shot the box with a very large rifle. It worked, I was able to call the cable place and apologize for being rude. I called my VoIP people and told them that their box was dead. The tech that I was talking to was from India and it was OK. He was reading a script and he couldn’t deviate from it, it took about 45 minutes to tell him that “the box was dead and I needed a new one. I don’t need another power supply, I need a new box.”
He said that he was not authorized to send me one and he referred me to his supervisor. This guy said “OK, we are going to send you another box. Thanks for your business.” SO by the time I went to bed at 2AM and wanted to play with the wife she said something like “touch me and I kill you.” At least I was able to fix the computer. She doesn’t remember telling me that. But I have the dog that sleeps with us as an eyewitness!!!!.

Silence at work.... So Far.

Good MORNING USA!!!
Last night I was able to sleep a little bit better. I was able to close my eyes, fall asleep, have a nightmare and then wake up ONLY three times during the night, but the best part is that I was bale to get back to sleep.
Today I went to the doc to see what was going on. After telling him that the best part of the old medicine was the three hour erection I would get (I timed it a few times), he said that it was a good thing that I didn’t like it and stopped taking it because he hated that medicine and he would have taken me off it anyway.
He sent me to the laboratory and after those butchers took about a liter of blood from me I went to the Radiology department to set up a CT Scan. My headaches were coming back and he wants to make sure I don’t have anything bad in my head. I am NOT worried that there is something wrong with me, I just hope that I am not one of those people that pick up an machete and goes crazy in the neighborhood. All the people in the neighborhood would say: “he was a great guy, he was the quiet type.”
Here I am at work minding my own business and looking for an excuse to get home and play with my kids, cook, clean the house, fix the yard, do the laundry, do the dishes and walk the dogs, fill up the tank of gas for both cars, etc, etc.
What is going to happen when I get home is that I am going to kiss the wife, try not to kill the kids because they are fighting again, try not to kill the dogs because they are fighting again and/or they took a Chihuahua size dump on the new carpet, the dishes are going to be piled up to the ceiling, the wife is going to be fed up with the kids and dogs and is going to want me to pick up food before I get home. By doing that I am going to get stuck in traffic until late in the evening and by the time I get home the food that I picked up is going to be cold, the kids are going to be high on sugar and chips and sodas, the wife is going to be pissed because she ate a salad already and I am NOT going to get any tonight.

I hope that it is not as bad!!!!

Working with computers and dogs keeping up at night.

Here I am at work, waiting for three computers to finish reformatting their hard drive. I have been doing that the whole day because I have not received calls from people telling me that their stuff is broke. (knocking on wood)
For the first time in my life I was able to find a broken hard drive and I took the liberty to take it apart. It was awesome! I can not believe that I found so much joy into breaking into a hard drive. I think I need to get a life.
For the last few days I have not been able to get a descent night of sleep. Last night I thought that it was going to be better but my two dogs and the cat decided to have a great fight. It was not a few minutes of them running all over the house, it was ALL NIGHT of barking and meowing and barking and running and barking and…… You get the point.

I have a Chihuahua that my wife got in Germany. The next door neighbor is German and now and then she calls her in German and the dog runs happily to her. So this dog understands German, English and some bad words in Spanish.
And I still wait; I have been waiting for ½ hour for this hard drive to reformat. Because I have a lot of broken computers here at work, I get to cannibalize most of them. One of them had a hard drive that was not running at all, so I decided to see what was going on inside of it. The first thing you have to do is to make sure you will never use it again, and then take the circuit board off it. That is when I found that the circuit board was burnt. So the hard drive is not broken just the circuit board that feeds the hard drive. Well, at least that is what I think. I let you know if I am wrong.
I wish I had a camera so I could show you what the hard drive looks inside.

A few months ago my daughter and I took a friend to Best Buy to purchase a computer. He wanted a laptop to be exact. It came with 1GB of RAM but the young man wanted more, so I asked for more and how much would it cost. The salesman looked for the type of RAM and looked for the price and said: “$135.00 for the RAM and $49.99 to install it.” My 12 year old daughter said in shock; “Daddy I can install that for free.” I looked at the salesman and I asked him if HE knew how to change RAM on a laptop and he said that he did, and then I asked him if $49.99 was a fair price to charge to change the memory on the laptop and he said that it was not up to him…. Blah… blah… the tech has to make sure that it is the right RAM and blah… blah… and that they are the experts… blah …blah… My daughter said to my friend that SHE could do it for $10.00 dollars and after I gave her the look of death; she said that she was going to do it for free. She showed my friend where to get the info from the computer. She removed the screw from the back of the laptop, read the info from the RAM already installed, matched it to the ones for sale, and clipped the RAM next to the other one, screwed the cover back on and … that was all. My friend gave her $20 anyway.

Good Morning to all

Not a good night last night. I have not been able to sleep for the last few weeks and I think I know why.
Long time ago in a land very far away called Iraq, we had a translator that was working with us, she was very smart and dedicated to her country. One beautiful 120F day in Baqubah, she went shopping with her father. As they were getting out of the taxi, terrorist pigs shot them both, killing her father and wounding her. As we got the reports, we were able to recognize the name and the whole office started to get her out of the Iraqi hospital to the American side of the city. My Captain called and said that she was working for us and she was also an American Citizen and needed to be admitted under our care. My Major was on the phone trying to get permission to let her stay in the US hospital. He tried the LTC in charge of the Baqubah, my Task Force Commander, and he was such an Idiot that didn't want to make the decision. So My Major went all the way to our Brigade Commander who said YES to our request. Once the yes was given she was at the gates and was able to get the best medical care in the world. She was transfered to the Baghdad Hospital under US care and was able to survive the chest and arm wound. Three weeks ago my Major called me to tell me that she was coming to the United States. She is here now and I hope that she comes to my house to stay and if she wants to, to live. My house is open to her and to any Iraqi that helped us.
I hope that she can make it here.
The memories of those days are coming back to me.... I hope they never go away... I hope I can learn to live with them so I can sleep.

I was SOOOOOOO busy

Well, I am sorry for my long absence but in the last few months I have been working my butt off, going to school, trying to start a new business (computers) and trying not to kill my 12 year old daughter for thinking that she is 21 years old.
My life is the same and in a strange way I am happy about it.
I miss moving every three years, if I was still in the military I would have moved my family somewhere in the Continental US already or Europe or South America or somewhere!!!. I have been in GA for three years and most of the boxes are unpacked. We still have boxes with two or three tags from the movers.
Work has been hell!!!! A little bit of reading and some thinking (it is amazing that most people don't use that great tool when a problem comes up) I have been able to solve some messed up problems with the Citrix Network that we are using. So far so good, but every day is a challenge and it keeps me busy and not thinking about how much of a quitter I am for getting out of the Army when a war is going on.

Well I HOPE that it won't take me soooooo long before I post again.
